What will Blackness look like in the future?

Lanaa: I feel like  Black people will be represented in a much better way and represented as the heroes and the amazing people we are. We won’t be represented as side kicks and  characters.

When you imagine that future, what do you see?

Ain: Blackness in the future will be free to have more fun without having to be serious all the time and worrying about the world.

How do we get there?

Lanaa: We get there by listening to each other’s ideas and contributing and working together.

Ain: We have to believe in ourselves, that we can do all the things we thought we couldn’t do.  We have to work as team.

Who will get us there?

Lanaa: Without question, children  will get us there. We can make a difference, if you just give us a chance to speak.

Ain: Everyone! I think all people can get us there. No one specific. As long as you are good with communication.

Given the chance to speak, what would you say?

Lanaa: I should think everyone should start learning African-American studies. We should learn more about our history in order to carry out the goals and legacy of past freedom fighters.

Lanaa and Ain say we should look to those around us to inform the future we want to see. Lanaa says we should also pay attention to the works of W.E.B. DuBois.
